Do you understand? That substance abuse is a creative way for people to access the support they require, in order to feel safe and confident enough to participate in life.
So congratulations on your resourcefulness, to access the support, you’ve required to get you to this point in your life.
Now that you are aware of that, it is good to understand that this “substance” use, is an old solution for a new problem. This old solution can be replaced when you find supportive people and activities to make the necessary changes in your life.
Be aware this is not a switch you can just turn off, it is a coping strategy that is so ingrained as a support method when you are under stress. It will require regular practice with alternative solutions that can often feel weird and uncomfortable.
The good news is it is possible!
Don’t let anyone else determine what recovery is for you. There are many pathways and avenues to achieve and live a life worth living, a life that you deserve.
We are human, we have feelings that can feel like they will kill us sometimes. Know this, that your feelings and emotions are valid, by learning how to accept these instead of change them has been the greatest gift I have ever been given.
When we are supported to feel safe in our emotions and feelings. This opens up the ability for us to be honest about how we feel about the current way we are living. Helping to identify alternative supportive behaviours and choices. Allowing you to make the changes required to live the life you deserve and desire.
My personal experience of making transformational change has given me insights into the various methods and pathways that has allowed me to live a life free from unhealthy choices, patterns, behaviours and substances.

I have lived and worked amongst the most privileged and the most discriminated of our society, from the highs of property and prestige to the depths of hell battling substance abuse. I am evidence that when supported appropriately, people can change.
After many years of working on my health and wellbeing, I now understand the value of my journey as evidence that people can change. As a result of my studies have provided me with insight and awareness to confidentiality share my story. I display the resilience required to rise above all of the labels society had placed upon me. My journey is evidence that with access to the appropriate support long term change is possible.
I have taken my first steps on a journey to make Systemic Change within the Criminal Justice System. Building Social Capital to design a new framework, that I believe will bring Significant Social Impact and Value.
