A Spike in Alcohol Consumption

Do you understand? That substance abuse is a creative way for people to access the support they require, in order to feel safe and confident enough to participate in life.

So congratulations on your resourcefulness, to access the support, you’ve required to get you to this point in your life.

Now that you are aware of that, it is good to understand that this “substance” use, is an old solution for a new problem. This old solution can be replaced when you find supportive people and activities to make the necessary changes in your life.

Be aware this is not a switch you can just turn off, it is a coping strategy that is so ingrained as a support method when you are under stress. It will require regular practice with alternative solutions that can often feel weird and uncomfortable.

The good news is it is possible!

Don’t let anyone else determine what recovery is for you. There are many pathways and avenues to achieve and live a life worth living, a life that you deserve.

We are human, we have feelings that can feel like they will kill us sometimes. Know this, that your feelings and emotions are valid, by learning how to accept these instead of change them has been the greatest gift I have ever been given.

When we are supported to feel safe in our emotions and feelings. This opens up the ability for us to be honest about how we feel about the current way we are living. Helping to identify alternative supportive behaviours and choices. Allowing you to make the changes required to live the life you deserve and desire.

My personal experience of making transformational change has given me insights into the various methods and pathways that has allowed me to live a life free from unhealthy choices, patterns, behaviours and substances.

Arnold Beisser and his life’s story is one that resonates well with me. He is responsible for coining the term “The Paradoxical Theory of Change”.

The idea can be summed up as “change occurs when one becomes what he is, not when he tries to become what he is not.” Change that is lasting and meaningful comes about as an organic process. To access the support needed for your transformational journey click
